Get Ready With Me | NYE Make Up

  • Thursday, 31 December 2015

The last day of the year means lots of drinks, parties and celebrations with friends and family. We usually go to a friend's house party or have some sort of get-together, however this year, James and I have decided to have a quiet evening with each other.

No.7's 25 Days Of Beauty | Christmas Advent Calendar

  • Wednesday, 30 December 2015

On my first Blogmas post I wrote about my excitement for opening my No.7 Beauty Advent Calendar. I can't believe that I have now opened each of the doors, Christmas is over and I am now writing an overview of what was inside. I have never had a beauty advent calendar before but this was such a lovely early Christmas present to myself and it was so lovely getting a little make up gift each day. There was a huge range of makeup and skincare products and I can see myself using each and everyone of them.

Boxing Day Sales | Lush Chirstmas Haul

  • Tuesday, 29 December 2015

On boxing day I braved the crowds and decided to go into town and see what goodies I could find in the boxing day sales. I obviously had to have a look in Lush and I am so glad that I did after finding out that all of their Christmas products had 50% off. I only spent £11 but walked away with a whole bag full of bath products.

The Best Of Beauty 2015

  • Monday, 28 December 2015

I really enjoyed writing a similar post to this last year however I tried to pick 'the best' item that I had used during 2014 for each product category. This year however, I have decided to just pick out my most favourite discoveries of the past 12 months and which products I can see myself still enjoying well into 2016.

Blogmas Day Twenty Four | Christmas Eve

  • Thursday, 24 December 2015

It's finally Christmas Eve! I can't believe that the big day is tomorrow!! Which also means the it is the end of Blogmas for this year. I have really enjoyed writing and posting daily posts for the month of December - it really got me into the festive spirit and I have had a lot of fun.

Blogmas Day Twenty Three | Festive Nail Varnishes

  • Wednesday, 23 December 2015

Amongst other things, a great way express your festivity is through nail varnish. It seems as though anything goes when it comes to Christmas polishes but here is a round up of my favourites to wear during the festive season.

Blogmas Day Twenty Two | Favourite Festive Drinks

  • Tuesday, 22 December 2015

One of my favourite aspects of Christmas are the limited edition coffee cups and special festive drinks. I love that no matter what time of day it is, it's perfectly acceptable to have a sickly sweet hot chocolate with all of the trimmings or a big mug full of mulled wine. Anything goes when it comes to hot beverages at Christmas time. It is the perfect excuse to have a catch up with friends, warm up after a chilly walk with family or to rest your arms after a full day of Christmas shopping.

Blogmas Day Twenty One | Wrapping Christmas Presents

  • Monday, 21 December 2015

I love wrapping Christmas presents and this weekend I wanted to get most of it done in one big session so that I don't have a last minute panic. James was out on Saturday night for his work's Christmas party so I thought that it was prime time to take over the living room and get wrapping. I like to get all of my presents out and sort them into piles so that I can see in one go what I have bought for each person. That way I know if I need to pick up any last minuet gifts and it reminds me what I have bought over the last few weeks.

Blogmas Day Twenty | A Lazy Christmas Sunday

  • Sunday, 20 December 2015

Starting my day by putting on my new Christmas jumper from Topshop. It is so soft and easy to wear, I especially love the fact that it isn't overly Christmas-y and too 'in your face'. I didn't have too much of a plan for the day but I needed to get a few more bits and bobs for Christmas and so I took a trip over to Monks Cross which is an open plan shopping centre in York.
After buying all of my last minute presents James came to meet me and we had a cheeky Pizza Hut lunch. As usual we couldn't finish our large cheesy bites pepperoni pizza and so after copious amounts of diet Pepsi and constantly telling each other how full we were, we asked for a take away box and came back home.
Once home I obviously had no choice but to change into my favourite Topshop Joggers and fluffy Primark slippers before giving the house a quick once-over. After we decorated the living room last weekend the house has been a little out of sorts and so it was nice to tidy up and start to get the house ready for the big day.
After a tidy there was nothing left to do but to make myself a nice coffee and sit down to watch one of my favourite Christmas films - The Nightmare Before Christmas. Tonight I have the house to myself so I plan on doing a bit more blogging and having a bit of a pamper night before getting ready for work in the morning.
How has your weekend been? Did you have a lovely Sunday?

Blogmas Day Nineteen | Festive Eyeshadow Collection

  • Saturday, 19 December 2015

One of the best ways to get your makeup looking festive is by using eyeshadow. I love to use more glittery and brighter shades than usual around this time of year especially when going out for festive drinks and Christmas meals. I decided to 'shop my stash' and pick out a few festive shades.

It is so easy to create a perfect smokey eye with the Bourjois Paris Eyeshadow Trio - Smokey Eyes. Although I often opt for a smokey eye throughout the year, this compact has shades that are slightly more shimmery. I also like to use it with the Marsk Fifty Shades mineral eyeshadow which adds a slightly darker shade with high impact shimmer.

For a softer, more natural smokey eye for perhaps a festive lunch date, the Estee Lauder Signature Eyeshadow Quad in Truffle is perfect. The highly pigmented shades have a lovely copper and olive green shade that work beautifully with the Barry M Dazzle Dust in shade 39. It is a great way to add glitz to a day time look or if applied a little more heavily a great natural, night-time look.

For a time when I want a less 'statement' look but still want a little bit of a festive look to my eye shadow I like to use Nars Orgasm which is actually a blusher but it is a bit too shimmery for me to use on my cheeks, or this purple glittery shade from No.7's Stay Perfect Eye Shadow range.

What festive eye shadows do you like to wear?

Blogmas Day Eighteen | A Winter OOTD

  • Friday, 18 December 2015

A few weeks ago James and I ventured out into town to have a look at the Christmas Market in York. Usually York play host to St Nickholas' Fair which lasts a few days and creates such a mad and busy atmosphere in the City. This year however, the little wooden hut-like stalls have remained standing from mid-November and so it has been a little less hectic and locals such as myself are able to ponder about with much more ease.

I decided to team up a few of my recent purchases and opted for a smart, causal, warm yet feminine look. The long sleeved ribbed black top is one of my Topshop staples as it can be worn with multiple outfits and provides some much needed warmth. I picked up the camel faux leather skirt and cream, woollen tank in Primark. The skirt was only £6 and is so easy to wear. It is a very 'on trend' colour that seems to be highly popular at the moment which I love! It has a gold zip detail that goes from the waist band all the way to the bottom of the skirt which adds a little extra detail that could be picked out with accessories. The tank is so so comfortable to wear and keeps me nice and warm without the commitment of a big, fluffy, winter jumper. I really like this outfit, I think that it is a perfect winter's day combination and I am sure I will be getting a lot more wear out of it over the next few weeks.

What do you like to wear during the winter months?

Blogmas Day Seventeen | Recent Reads

  • Thursday, 17 December 2015

I have loved taking the time to read, and for the last few months I have wanted to make this a part of my daily routine. It has been really nice going to bed a little earlier than usual and putting time aside to get away from everyday life and escape into a good book. I have read a bit of  mixture of late and thought that I would share my four most recent reads.
Alice's Adventures In Wonderland and Through The Looking-Glass - Lewis Carroll: I grew up a huge Disney fan and so naturally loved their brilliant adaptation of Alice In Wonderland. I decided that it was time to read the books and I have really enjoyed them. It was really fun to escape with Alice into Wonderland and read a little more in depth about each of the characters that Alice meets along the way. I can see it being a book that I pick up time and time again.
A Christmas Carol - Charles Dickens: I have always loved the story of A Christmas Carol and much like Alice in Wonderland I felt it was time to read the book. It was a lovely festive read that really got me into the sprit of Christmas. It also has such a beautiful cover that is part of the Waterstone's Cloth Bound book series.
Painter Of Silence - Georgina Harding: This was a beautiful and delicate story between two Russian childhood friends and how their relationship was effected during the war. It was quite a quick read which was very easy to escape into.
Pretty Honest - Sally Hughes: I think that this book is on every beauty bloggers must read list. I ended up borrowing it from my local library and it was a really interesting read. I liked that you don't need to read it cover to cover in order, you can easily dip in and out reading chapters as and when you want to. It is filled with some great hints and tips talking all things beauty.

Blogmas Day Sixteen | An Evening Skincare Routine Update

  • Wednesday, 16 December 2015

I have recently being trying a lot of new skincare products as I find that I can some times get a little bored of using the same products day after day. These are a few new additions to my evening skincare routine as I have been a bit lazy with it lately and thought that it needed a little re-vamp.
I really like to use an eye makeup remover to begin with as they are usually oil-based and so help to dislodge and remove mascara and eyeliner. This one from Corpore Sano is great at easily removing eye makeup without pulling or a need for excess rubbing. Paired with their Facial Toner which contains Witch Hazel and Sage extracts, it leaves my skin feeling really fresh and very clean.
I have also been using this Vitamin C Power Serum from Brodie and Stone which has provided some much needed moisture to my skin. It is so nice to put a pump of this product on to a clean face and let it soak in and hydrate my face. Combined with this Corpore Sano soothing Eye Cream and the Brodie and Stone Day & Night Ultra Hydrating Moisturiser, I go to bed feeling very refreshed and hydrated almost as though I have had a mini facial.
What's in your evening skincare routine?

Blogmas Day Fifteen | Buying & Decorating The Christmas Tree

  • Tuesday, 15 December 2015

Last weekend seemed to be one of our most productive to date. After a lovely relaxing Christmas Yoga session on the Saturday morning I came home to my living room in tatters as James and his dad fit our brand new flooring. I sorted through the Christmas presents, made the must-have bacon sandwiches and copious amounts of tea for the boys and got majorly organised with Madolyn Thinks Blogmas.

Sunday was an early start with a trip to B&Q, something I hated doing as a child, to pick up some white emulsion and grey paint for our living room walls. We then took a trip to a local Christmas tree farm and picked out or first real tree together. Every year my parents buy a big beautiful Christmas tree that looks and smells amazing. We decided to push the boat out this year and buy a real tree as it just didn't feel the same last year with our mini fake one.

After a quick trip to town to pick up a few more Christmas presents we got started with painting the living room. Between coats I decided to paint our TV unit with the same 'Bowler Hat' grey as the walls and it has ended up really tying the look together. After a long day we brought in the tree, put the living room back together and got decorating.

I had such a lovely weekend and it was so lovely to be able to get the living room all sorted and ready for Christmas. Me and James are spending the day together in our little house with our cat Nelson so it is little traditions like getting a real tree that make it all the more special.

Have you decorated your tree yet?

Blogmas Day Fourteen | A Relaxing Yoga Christmas Special

  • Monday, 14 December 2015

Christmas is such a fun time of year but it can get a little hectic at times what with the stress of buying gifts, busy city centres and rushing around trying to get everything ready for the big day. With that being said, it is always a good idea to take a bit of time for your self and step away from the hectic count down to Christmas day.

At the weekend I went to a lovely Yoga class titled A Wind Down To Christmas with the idea of escape and relaxation. It was so nice to have two hours set to one side without having to think of anything apart from living in the present. It was such a beautiful setting with amazing, Pinterest worthy decor which had a lovely relaxing atmosphere. After the Yoga we sat and had some festive mulled wine and mini mince pies. It was the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning in December.

How do you like to unwind and relax during the festive period?

Blogmas Day Thirteen | Christmas Party FOTN

  • Sunday, 13 December 2015

I love getting ready for a night out and putting my make up on is definitely the highlight. It was my work's Christmas party last weekend and I decided to re-create the make up look I wore for that, for the #Bloggersxmas event in London as it was fairly festive. You can have a peak at my outfit here and have a read about the #Bloggerxmas event here.

I decided that with a bold red lip I would opt for a very natural base and a golden smokey eye. I applied my usual moisturiser and then used the Seventeen Skin Wow Primer to provide a soft glow. I then used Benefit Cosmetics Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation in Ivory and touched up any imperfections with Mac's Pro-Longwear Concealer. I used Benefit's Hoola Bronzer to provide a bit of warmth and definition to my face and added a tiny amount of Benefit's Hervana Blusher to the apples of my cheeks.

For my eyes I popped on a small amount of Urban Decay's Complexion Primer Potion and then used Seventeen's Instant Glow Shimmer Brick in Gold Bronze as it works really well as an eye shadow pallet to create a soft gold smokey eye. I then lined my top lids with Topshop's Liquid Liner and used black eyeliner under my eyes and in my waterline. I put on lashings of Benefit's They're Real Mascara on my lashes and filled in my eyebrows with Benefit's Brow-Zings. For my lips I applied Mac's He Said She Said Pro-Longwear Lip Liner with Mac's Viva Glam by Miley Cyrus.

What is your favourite festive makeup look?
