First Impressions | A Few New Skincare Products

Skincare is one of my favourite things to buy in the beauty world, and I love trying new products. There are so many amazing brands on the market and I seem to have been introduced to a lot of new and different ones lately. Although I have recently attempted to streamline my skincare routine, which you can have a read about here, I love discovering new products and great brands, and adding them to my routine.

I think that it is important to switch things up a bit, as out skin needs can vary some much, season to season and even at different times of the month. So I thought that I would gather together a few new pieces of skincare that I have been trying out lately and let you know my thoughts on them so far.

Dr Botanicals Two in One Cleanser & Toner*

I am quickly becoming a huge lover of this all natural, cruelty free, suitable for vegans, brand. This two in one cleanser is the third product of theirs that I have tried, and I think that it is perfect for summer. This is a great product that is ideal for days when I have a more natural face of makeup on, which is basically all of the time during the warmer summer months.

The idea is simple, the product both cleanses and tones the skin in one simple step, effectively removing makeup and leaving the face prepped for the rest of your evening skincare routine. I find that if I have heavier makeup or a lot of eye makeup, I may need to use my everyday Clarins Cleanser and Toner, as well as an eye makeup remover. However, after a day of minimal makeup this product is ideal. Only need one pump for the whole of the face, and it smells amazing.

Shills Mandelic Acid Cleaning Mousse*

I have recently been introduced to the skincare brand, Shills. I am always excited to try out new brands and loved the idea of their Cleaning Mousse. The product comes out of a pump at the top, but through a head of little plastic nodules. The idea is that you can apply the product straight from the pump to your face, and use the head as an exfoliator.

I love the idea of this as it is not only a great way to cleanse and wake up the skin on a morning, but you also don’t get any of the product on your hands. It leaves the skin feeling amazingly clean but also very soft and hydrated. It is the perfect morning cleanser for when you have just rolled out of bed and need an instant wake up call.

Clarins Toning Lotion
When I was in Edinburgh a few weeks ago, which you can read about here, I took a trip to Boots, as I needed a repurchase of the Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover. I was also about to run out of toner so I decided to try the Clarins Toning Lotion with Iris. I already use their exfoliating toner, which is a part of my bi-weekly skincare routine, so I decided to pick up this toner for everyday use. It is really gentle on the skin and makes my face feel very clean after cleansing and removing my makeup on an evening, making the skin feel fully prepped before applying serums and moisturiser.

Clarins Body Oil

When I bought the toner and eye makeup remover, Clarins had a three full-sized gift offer available. However, as it was a busy Saturday down Princes street in Edinburgh they were running low on options for me to pick and so the shop assistant offered me this oil – such a bargain and a brilliant product to boot! It is advertised as body oil, however, the assistant told me it can be used for the body, face and hair, as well as a night serum when mixed with moisturiser or a bath oil. It is a great multi purpose product that will be perfect for traveling.

Shills Skin Lifting Anti-Wrinkle Moisturizing Mask*

There seems to be a lot of hype online about sheet masks, so I was extremely eager to give one a go. I was a bit concerned that I would feel quite claustrophobic if I used one, and because they are usually a ‘one size fits all’ product, that the proportions might not work on my face. I was pleasantly surprised however when I tried the Skin Lifting Mask from Shills. It was very easy to apply, fit my face perfectly and after a while I forgot I even had it on (a part from the funny looks I was getting from both my cat and my boyfriend, I think I scared him a bit when he got home from work…!)

As this was a moisturising mask, it was very thin and delicate, soaked in a beautifully hydrating formula. It allowed the mask to be flexible whilst I got it into position, but remained on the face quite comfortably for the full 20 minutes it suggests. Once I peeled it off, I rubbed the remaining lotion into my skin, which felt so hydrating and comforting.

Have you tried any new skincare products lately?
