Sometimes in life, things do not go to plan. For some people, this isn’t a big deal. They can always see the positive in a situation, or a light at the end of the tunnel. I wish I was one of those people. I however, am not that type of person.

I love to have things planned. I love to know what is going on, and I find it really difficult when I have an idea of how something is going to pan out, and it ends up not working out that way.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am flexible. Most of my life is not some timetabled, detailed and organised affair. However, there are certain aspects of my life that I like to plan, organise and keep structured. When I have worked hard to create something and it doesn’t work out, then I can’t help but feel disappointed and down hearted.

Take London Fashion Week for example. Last week I attended Fashion Week for the very first time. I was so excited to head down to London and get involved with everything that Fashion Week had to offer. I had each day planned out, I had my content for the next few week’s worth of blog posts decided, and I had a list of photographs and footage that I wanted to take whilst I was down there.

I woke up on the Sunday morning however and my camera would not turn on. My trusty Olympus Pen, which has provided me with lovely photography over the last two years, literally would not work. I’m not going to lie; I did shed a little tear. It was pure frustration as there was nothing I could do and I felt so disheartened that my trip to London Fashion Week was wasted.

However, I decided that there was no point dwelling on it. I still went to everything that I had planned and just had to take all of my photographs, and film the rest of my vlog on my phone. The quality was fairly bad and I didn’t manage to get as half as much content as I had hopped for, however it wasn’t the end of the world and I just had to deal with it.

The moral of the story I guess is that sometimes shit things happen, but we have to just deal with it and make do.

Ways To Remain Positive When Things Don’t Go To Plan

Take a deep breath and try to clear your mind
Calmly brainstorm ways to get you back on track
Call a friend, your mum or partner – they might offer some great advice
Try to get some perspective – usually things aren’t as bad as they seem
Ask for help – the problem might get fixed there and then
Give it some time – sometimes sleeping on things can make them appear better

I am a big believer in things working out for the best and usually things do have a way of sorting themselves out. Have a watch of this video, which provided me with a bit of inspiration when it comes to working out ways to overcome situations that you hadn’t planned for.

How do you remain positive when things don't go to plan?
